I have been considering doing a reading on the blog for some time, so here it is.

It is this post: Crash.

It is a single, first take with mistakes and all, plus the ambiance of neighbourhood sounds (welcome to my home!)… This absolutely and definitively proves that Australians do NOT have an accent…

If you find it enjoyable and you are interested in hearing more, then comment wildly and with enthusiasm.

I liked this reading, It lets me get into the feel of how you would read your own posts, where your emphasis lies, the feelings behind each and every pause, break and unwritten yet embedded emotion. It's…. A mental window to the foggy scene unfolding in your memory. I must say I flinched the first time I heard the slap noise. *laughs*

Oh, and, Definative proof that Australians DO have an accent, Bravo, It most certainly comes out in this great reading.

I look forward to more of these!

  2. The Rabbit: “*quiet applause*”

*takes a bow…* Thank you! And I appreciate very much hearing what you liked about it.

“I must say I flinched the first time I heard the slap noise.”

That is a really great mental image for me!

“Australians DO have an accent, Bravo, It most certainly comes out in this great reading.”

Pffftt… lies, I tell you, lies!!

I'm very glad you liked it, thank you little rabbit.

  3. Secretive Slave: “I loved all of it but the sound effects were so perfect and unexpected!”

Thank you! Lucky I had a boy here to slap at the appropriate moments… “Sound-effects-boy”… that could be an entirely new fetish…

  4. It's so nice to be able to put a voice to the posts I enjoy reading so much. It makes the foggy scene that is Ferns a little less foggy which is nice.

Random aside: I love that you're on twitter. I used to just check the site daily to see if you had updated… but NO MORE. I have tweets to let me know. :) (Yes, I'm a creature of habit so sue me).

  5. AWESOME! ~sounds of raucous clapping and foot stomping~ I remember reading it when you first posted it and thought it was great then. It sounds even better than it reads. I hope you do more of them

… and I am totally smitten with your non-accent ~swoon~

  6. MercuryKitty666: “It's so nice to be able to put a voice to the posts I enjoy reading so much.”

    I'm glad, I AM unfoggy!

“Random aside: I love that you're on twitter… I have tweets to let me know.”

Ha!! I'm glad! But you also have to put up with random nonsense about stupid irrelevancies… there's always a price…

  7. Sgath: “This is so incredibly sexy listening to! You are quite talented with words and their inflections.”

*smile* Thank you Sgath (wondering how one pronounces that when one doesn't have an accent…)…

  8. slapshot: “AWESOME! ~sounds of raucous clapping and foot stomping~”…I hope you do more of them

*big smile* Thank you… as I said to you on twitter, it feels a lot more personal than writing, so it's a bit of a challenge.

“… and I am totally smitten with your non-accent ~swoon~”

See, see…!!? “Non-accent”… slapshot never lies… I'm sure I would sound much better if I DID have an accent… those foreigners get all the breaks…

  9. Coug: “strewth mate and stone the flamin crows”

*laugh* That's exactly how we all talk really! Next time I will add a 'gidday' at least (though it will make me laugh stupidly, I am sure!).

“You are super duper hot sexy”

    Thank you!!!

  10. You have a very young sounding voice…maybe it's the lack of the accent.

Though that aside I couldn't listen to it. Not that I think it's a bad idea, I'm just worried it'd ruin the way I read them.

  11. I'm sure I would sound much better if I DID have an accent… those foreigners get all the breaks

Very true Ferns, In fact, I get calls from as far away as Senegal and East Timor just so they can catch a listen to my nasal New York bray. Of course, in Florida, they still tell me “Y'all sure do talk funny.” … I pay them no mind

  12. I just sat staring off, and lost myself in the scene. When you finished I found my heart beating out of my chest and my breath was heavy and quick.

    Wonderful, simply wonderful.

  13. Brids: “You have a very young sounding voice…maybe it's the lack of the accent.”

    It's because I am terribly immature… heh.

“Though that aside I couldn't listen to it. Not that I think it's a bad idea, I'm just worried it'd ruin the way I read them.”

But but… it has sound effects!!! *~laugh~*

Actually, I can understand that, Brids… it's similar to seeing a movie of a book, it can commandeer the way it was in your head and turn it into something else, and sometimes not a *better* something else.

  14. Coug: “See Brids to me it enhances the way I read them in a seriously hot provokingly way”

Or, happily, it might work exactly the other way *smile*!!

  15. I have made an alternate mp3 file of your reading. The main difference is that I cleaned up a bunch of the hiss and also converted it to a mono track (there wasn't really a difference between the left and right channels).

The link for it is at http://cblockup.com/DomChron/Ferns%20Crash%2014Mar2010.mp3

That link is not for public consumption as I will be deleting the file in a week or so. It's there just if you want to replace the file that you have with this one.

  16. david: “I have made an alternate mp3 file of your reading. The main difference is that I cleaned up a bunch of the hiss and also converted it to a mono track”

Thank you so much, david! It is much clearer. I have replaced the original with this one – your technical skills are very much appreciated.

  17. Miss Ferns,

Oh my god! I didn't expect that you'd make it so dramatic. That really was splendid!

    Sir Puppington Lothian.

  18. Dear Sx, i loved hearing your reading of Crash.
As many of your fans have said i hope it is the first of many readings, regards always, brendan

  19. puppy: “Oh my god! I didn't expect that you'd make it so dramatic. That really was splendid!”

*bows* Thank you, puppy. I shall be delighted to do a reading at your next Victorian tea party, dear. You will be the sound effects bottom, of course.

  20. Wonderful, wonderful. I saved this for just the right moment, knowing it would be good. And you did not disappoint. You have a gorgeous voice (or whoever you hired does).

So, you are a girl after all. One can never be sure these days.

  21. Yardbird: “Wonderful, wonderful. I saved this for just the right moment, knowing it would be good. And you did not disappoint.”

*smile* Thank you, Yardbird, I'm glad you enjoyed it – I know how disappointing it is to be disappointed so I am pleased I didn't take you there…

“You have a gorgeous voice (or whoever you hired does).”

*laugh* Just as I hire monkeys to write my blog, I hire African grey parrots for my voice work…

“So, you are a girl after all. One can never be sure these days. “

No… no one can't… *twirls moustache, adjusts crotch*

  22. Wow!! First rate all around, your writing, your voice and intonation… those slaps!!

*wanting more, throwing away reticence and now out of my passive shell, naked, to do an enthusiastic happy dance… *

    Encore, Ferns! Encore, Ferns!

  23. Fergis: “Wow!! First rate all around, your writing, your voice and intonation… those slaps!!”… *…naked… enthusiastic happy dance… *.

*smile* I'm glad you enjoyed it, Fergis, and thank you for the naked and enthusiastic happy dance!

    1. Oh, that’s so sweet! It was a really emotional reading for me (which is a reason why I didn’t want to do a retake, despite some background noise). I’m so pleased that it came through to you in that way.
